Because Dogs in Harmony works privately with your dog in your own home, we can develop customized plans for specific challenges or needs. It's also easy to have the whole family participate, which means everyone will learn together how best to support your dog's new learning.
INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT FOR BEHAVIOUR DIFFICULTIES
Separation anxiety; excessive barking; chewing; thunder-phobia; digging; door-crashing; destructive behaviour; leash reactivity; these are just a few of the reasons we are called in to help with behaviour. An initial phone or email discussion will identify your concerns and we'll assess what we can offer you. At the first visit we'll observe the dog in her natural environment, provide you with some education and takeaway materials, and lay out a full behaviour modification strategy for moving forward. Follow-up visits, vet appointments, or other steps may be suggested.
OWNER EDUCATION AND SUPPORT SESSIONS
Often in dog ownership, skills start with the human--not the dog! A good owner is often one that will make time to gather the info she needs to proceed successfully with her dog. Some owners need help after their dog has had a difficult experience; some contact us when behaviours have changed due to illness or chronic pain. Individualized sessions will include in-person info sharing and a selection of recommended resources to support you in further learning.
Behavioural programs usually require between 1 and 5 sessions; we can provide a price after initial assessment.
PUP PREPARATION SUPPORT
Whether you're bringing home a puppy or a new adult dog adoption, your household is about to undergo a major change. Dogs in Harmony can come to your home and help prepare your puppy-proof rooms, prepare your current dog to meet the new one, teach your children how to interact with the new pooch, and much more. You won't believe the peace of mind that comes with having an expert walk you through what to expect in the first few weeks...and you'll never believe how many loose wires and small toys you'll forget to hide without that fresh pair of eyes!
THE DOGGONE SMART 'BE A TREE™' PROGRAM
Head Trainer Lynn Hyndman is a certified trainer for the Be a Tree™ program, teaching children and adults how to handle appraoches by strange dogs that may be threatening or frightening. This program is helpful for people of all ages who may be wary of dogs, unfamiliar with them, or new to an environment where they will be in close quarters with dogs. This course will teach the student(s) what a safe or dangerous dog looks like, how to interact safely with a dog, dog body language cues, and more. While this course is useful for any age group, we are regularly asked to attend school-aged groups such as Brownies, Guides, Boy Scouts, and sports clubs.
